Starting To Get My Writing Published More!

Last week was a little crazy for this small-time* blogger! I had a post on my blog about online reviews that I then offered to the Huffington Post’s Books section. They took it quickly and featured it high on the page with a nice big photo of Amazon’s logo. Hooray!

Huffington Post and More

I’ve been in Huff Post’s Parents, Religion, and Technology sections, but always on the left side with articles that disappear after a few days. This particular article stayed high and stayed put! It also got some strong comments, but not all good. One in particular was personal and nasty.

I know when I come down strong on an issue I’m going to anger some readers. Perhaps the positive comments I receive on most articles no matter where I write is a sign that I play it too safe on this blog and everywhere else. It’s something to think about. Am I too scared to offend people? I suppose I am, and I suppose if I keep that fear with me all the time, it will ultimately hold back my writing. It probably already does. What will I do with that information? I don’t know yet. It needs time to simmer.

Kveller

THE NEXT DAY, I had my first post on Kveller.com, a Jewish parenting site that I admire and read often. Mayim Bialik writes a column there you guys! She’s the actress who played Blossom in the 80s. She now stars on The Big Bang Theory, and—GET THIS—has a degree in neuroscience, Hebrew, and Judaic Studies.

But enough about Mayim. I think you’ll like my piece at Kveller even if you’re not Jewish, and I hope you’ll check it out. It’s about taking a day OFF every single week from the nutty schedules we all keep with errands, birthday parties, extra-curricular activities and so on. It’s also about how my husband and I, though not raised religious and not the most religious Jews even now, still managed to cobble together a fairly “traditional” Shabbat–Hebrew for the Sabbath, our day of rest.

SO, while it was certainly an exciting few days for my experiment in non-fiction over fiction, it wasn’t a great week for Twitter and Facebook etiquette. I felt enormously guilty and embarrassed for attempting to promote three posts in one week. And that is why I’m closing comments on this post! Of course I would love to see your thoughts on the Huffington Post article and especially the one at Kveller, but you can leave those thoughts over THERE.
